Here we go...

Life is flying by so fast, this is how I am hoping to slow it down. Or at least document it. Provide some kind of evidence that we do exist.

You know when you are on an airplane, completely content in your aisle seat, with your book and your pillow, ready to enjoy the flight and then you see a disheveled parent round the corner? Bags over every shoulder, wiry toddler trying to grab the oxygen mask, wide-eyed baby propped up with one hand, sippy cup and toddler snacks in the other. And you just hope those people aren't sitting near you? Well, we are those people. At least you get to get off the airplane...this, for better or worse, is our life.

Getting coffee with my boys, our morning ritual

Six months ago life was very different. We were living in a new urbanism neighborhood in South Carolina with our rambuncious toddler and family dog. I had a fantastic position as an Intern Architect and we all spent too much time in the car. Now home is an apartment in Palazzo Valmarana in Vicenza, Italy. Our family has grown and we now have two little guys to raise. My new role is trying to navigate living in Italy, and trust me, that is a fulltime position. I thought I was leaving life in the fast lane, but it seems like I have been travelling at warp speed ever since.

As if that wasn't enough, we are also preparing to live in Italy without our patriarch. Walt will be deploying for one year in December. Although I try to remember that it is the military that has afforded us the opportunity to live in Europe, it is not without sacrifice, and the coming year will be a challenge for all of us. I am proud of Walt for the contribution he is about to make and know that his role in this conflict is a vital one. Now, if only the military would embrace telecommuting...

Wherever our little crew goes, chaos ensues. It makes for an interesting life.

A pizza fest in our neighborhood

Sunday afternoon in Asiago (yes, like the cheese)
